Popular Halloween Party Games For Children

Halloween is a favorite holiday for many children, second only to Christmas. Dressing up as your favorite character and collecting a huge amount of free candy is hard to beat for a kid. One way to you can add to the fun of Halloween is by throwing a Halloween party for your children and their friends. In order to do this well there are a number of things that you will need. You'll want food, drinks, decorations and props. Also, just in case the children start to get bored, it's useful to have a few Halloween party games ready for them to play. Often, the kids themselves can organize their own games but, depending on the age of the children, it might be wise to provide adult supervision to prevent the play becoming too boisterous.

Coming up with Halloween party games that will keep your kids entertained may be the trickiest part of the planning so here are a few simple and inexpensive ideas. Use them to create a fun and entertaining party for both children and adults alike.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

The classic Halloween Treasure Hunt is a great party games for kids of seven and up and will keep them entertained for a long time. Choose easy to find items and some that are well hidden. The children should be split into teams of mixed ages and given lists of the items that they need to search for. Make sure most of the items have a Halloween theme. If you need some assistance with choosing items to include on the list, there are many websites that have printable scavenger hunt lists that you can use. The team that collects the most items within a designated time period or the first team back with all of their items are the winners of the game.

Bobbing For Apples

Probably even more of a classic than the Halloween Scavenger Hunt is bobbing for apples. The only items you will need for this are a large container for holding water and a bag of apples from your local grocery store. If you're having a large party with lots of kids, a toddler's plastic wading pool makes an excellent container to hold the water and has the advantage of being large enough for several kids to bob for apples at the same time.

Fill the container to a depth of 8 to 12 inches to allow the apples to float freely. Drop the apples into the water and let the children kneel down and try to remove an apple from the water using only their teeth. You can group them in sets of two or three if you like to make it more fun. Obviously, this game, like many Halloween party games for kids, is best played outdoors to prevent mess inside the house. However, make sure game is supervised at all times by an adult. The child who extracts an apple the fastest should be the one that gets the winner although you may want to give all the children a little prize regardless.

Other Halloween party games for kids include beanbag tosses, variations of pin the tail on the donkey like stick the fang on the vampire, truth or dare and contests such as best or most unique Costume. These can be judged by adults or voted on by the children themselves.

Halloween Party Game Prizes

The most obvious Halloween party prizes will be candy since the aim for most children on Halloween is to collect as much of it as they can. Other prizes might be pencils, erasers and small toys. However, the most important part of your party is making sure that the guests enjoy themselves.

Halloween party will make a nice change from trick or treating for most kids and having some games prepared will go a long way to making sure they all have a fun time.
