Kids Games Party - Kim's Game is a real winner

Coming up ideas for your kid's party games is not always easy. The real problem is that often we try so hard to be clever, we are missing something really good games noses are simply that, under our direct.

Kim's Game is one of those -

This game is named after the character in the book of the famous spy Young Kim by Rudyard Kipling.

This is a simple memory game, simple to configure and very popular with children.

In the longer you have a tray with a preparationnumber of objects (for 7 year olds about 25 objects is about right).

Common objects might include: comb, pen, pencil, screwdriver, train ticket, wallet, mobile phone, tennis ball, marble, candle stick, key, paper clip, scrubbing brush, thimble, toy car, matchbox, coin, ruler, watch, fir cone, playing card, water pistol, dinner fork etc. You really can include anything you wish. It can be fun to add a couple of unusual objects ie a tin of baked beans or garden gnome amongst the more common items.

Divide your children into teams of between 4 and 8, you may like to assign an adult helper to each team (older children could work on their own). The children sit in a circle with the tray of objects put down in front of them and then get 2 minutes to view all the objects on the tray. Do not allow the children to pick up the objects but you could turn the tray every so often.

You then remove the tray and the children, working in their teams, have 4 minutes to remember as many items as possible. Their adult helper acts as secretary recording their answers on a sheet of paper.

After 4 minutes (or less if they run out of ideas) read out the complete list of items. The team with the most correctly remembered items on their sheet wins.

If you wanted, rather than writing the answers down, you could also have teams calling out an item they have remembered in turn, until one team cannot think of any more.

Kim's Game is a real winner at kid's parties. Children particularly like it because it's nice and simple to understand. It also makes a perfect way of calming down a party after some more boisterous games.

So at your next kids party do give Kim's Game a go and remember the great memory game that is right under your nose!

Birthday Party Games - Three Emergency Last Second Tactics!

Some friends of mine were having a birthday party for their son a while back. They had carefully planned every aspect of the event. The food was a hit, the entertainer was professional, and everyone really got into the theme.

There was only one problem.

The games went quite a bit faster than anticipated. One game that they expected to last over fifteen minutes was over in less than three! When dealing with kids you've always got the element of surprise. It doesn't matter how much planning you do, there's always a curveball at the last second.

The parents weren't supposed to be back to pick up everyone for another half hour. When the children ran out of things to do, they naturally got antsy. Mom and dad started giving each other terrified looks.

Fortunately, I was there to help. Here are two fun birthday party games that don't require any equipment or preparation. They can be done at the last second and stretched out without getting boring. Keep these in your arsenal at all time just in case.

Heads Up! Seven Up!
Seven players stand in front of the group. The group sits down and closes their eyes. The seven in front go around and each touch one person. After seven people have been touched, the seven choosers go back to the front of the room. Then the seven would say "Heads up seven up" and each "touched" student gets one chance to guess which of the seven touched him/her. If they guess right then they get to change places with that person. If they did not guess right, then the same person gets to stay up do it again.

Grocery List A-Z
Start out by saying, "I went to the grocery store and bought apples." Then ask the players to add to the list something bought at the grocery store that starts with the letter B such as "a brush". The next player continues with the letter C and so forth all the way to Z. If a younger child can't think of something, the adults and older kids can help.

Last but not least there's one other emergency preparation that you should make before the party begins.

Have a Movie!
Stop by your local movie rental store and pick up a popular kids movie. If all else fails you can pop it in and the children will be entertained until their parents come to pick them up.

During the planning process you should prepare for any possible emergencies. Having these games (and a movie) on hand will save you from disaster in case things go wrong!

Things to Consider When Getting Hitched in Sin City

If you have ever thought about a destination wedding, you know that just as much planning goes into the event as if you were having your wedding right in your own backyard. You need to prepare family and friends, you need to arrange a ceremony and after party, and you need to make sure you are ready for marriage. Just because you rush off to Sin City filled with love and excitement does not mean you will not one day need a child custody attorney. However, if you prepare for the event, you can still have a great wedding and great marriage that begins in Sin City and you will never need to call on the services of that custody attorney. The key is to be as organized and efficient in your planning for a getaway wedding as you would for a wedding in your hometown. Just because something is far away does not mean it cannot be traditional, or at least have the traditional aspects you crave. Many people think of Sin City weddings as tawdry and cheap, but you can change that by planning a fun and creative event that everyone will enjoy.

First, unless you have your heart set on a Sin City themed wedding, scrap the idea of marrying in one of the little overnight chapels or drive through wedding services. Some people do this as a gimmick and then throw a traditional reception, but if this is not your plan, consider other alternatives. Many users report these chapels are often crowded and the wedding is rushed. It could be a cute idea to run of away from the rest of your party and come back married an hour later, but if you are not into the gimmick just for laughs, you will probably not be happy. The good news is, there are plenty of other options. There are numerous traditional churches in Nevada, and if you really want your nuptials on the strip, you can use one of the wedding chapels in the hotels. Nearly all of the strip hotels have at least one chapel and many of them feature a variety of scenic destinations around their grounds where weddings can be performed. Many of these are elegant and impressive.

Next, you will be planning your reception just as you would at home. Many of the hotels offer ready made reception packages that are affordable and provide everything you need for the ceremony and after party. Others choose to reserve a private room in one of the city's numerous restaurants. The difference between a Sin City wedding and one in your hometown is probably going to be arranging the vendors. The hotels make it easy by bringing in everything you need, so you do not need to plan a vendor for each aspect of the party. This may reduce your choices a bit, but it makes planning easier. In most cases, the vendors can handle special requests, so do not be afraid to ask if you envisioned something in particular for your special day.

Dinosaur Party Games - Have a Roaring Good Time With These Ideas

Whether you can hear the ruckus of a herd of dinosaurs, or just archaeologists getting ready for their next dig, dinosaur party games are a great addition to any dinosaur party. If you need some fun dinosaur party games to keep them from digging up the garden in search of dino bones, here are some ideas for you.

Dino Egg Hunt Dinosaur Party Game

This dinosaur party game is very easy to set up, and a lot of fun for your dino hunters! Use plastic colored Easter eggs to put small prizes in then hide them around the yard for your archeologists to hunt! Alternatively, put the prizes into a 'lucky dip', with each child taking a pick once they have found a dino egg. If bad weather is an issue, this game can easily be moved inside.

Dino Piñata Dinosaur Party Game

You should be able to find a dinosaur piñata any time of year. If you aren't crazy about the idea of having your piñata filled with candy, just add some plastic dino toys! This is another party game that is easily adapted for the weather! All you have to do is set everything up in the garage or basement! Just make sure there is room for your guests to take a swing at the piñata! For older children, get them to wear a blindfold when swinging at the piñata for an added challenge.

From egg-hunting to piñata-bashing, these dinosaur party games are just a few ideas to get your child's dinosaur party roaring. It really doesn't take much to turn the occasion into one that will well and truly be remembered.

4 Amazingly Fun Twilight Party Games For the Twi-Hard Fans

This fall, many fans of the Twilight series will be looking forward to second novel adaptation that will be coming to the big screen, New Moon. The movie continues where Twilight left off. Bella Swan turns 18 and celebrates her birthday with her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen. However, a dangerous incident at the Cullens' home convinces Edward that his world is too dangerous and he abruptly breaks up with Bella. Bella is devastated, but tries to move on with her friend Jacob. In the end Jacob turns out to be more than human himself. Many fans are planning to celebrate the premiere by having Twilight parties. Other than the upcoming movie it can be a party that a fan throws for a birthday or a costume party theme. One thing that can liven up any party is party games. Here are some great Twilight themed party games that you can play at your event.

Vampires and Werewolves are creatures with a superhuman awareness of their surroundings. You can play a game of New Moon Red Light Green Light. The game is simple to play. You have one person that is the caller. This is the person shouts out red light and green light. The rest of the players are at the other end of the room trying to reach the caller. When the caller says green light they can move. If the caller says red light the other players have to freeze in place. The true twist is that the caller is blindfolded. This means that they have to rely only on their hearing. The first player to touch the caller wins.

Another great game is Twilight Jeopardy. Test the knowledge of the fans at your party by having them answer Twilight trivia questions. Have each guest either play on their own or in groups. Then depending on how the final points tally is give a certain gift to each contestant. It will prove to be a great way for fans to show off their Twilight knowledge and enjoy the excitement of competition.

Vampires are extremely fast. Since we mere mortals can't match their speed, a game that can at least present the imitation of it is flashlight tag. Find a safe place to play outside and give everyone flashlights. Pick someone to be it and let the fun begin. The movement of people running with their flashlights will make them look like they are moving at superhuman speed.

Bella is known in the series for having a mind that is impervious to telepathy. So a great game to play is mental shield. In the game, split your guests into two teams. One group will be interrogators and the other group will be defenders. As the host you will come up with a question. It should be along the lines of something like "Did you do this?" or "Is it true that..." Give the defenders the answer to the question. The interrogators can then pick any member of the defenders to question. The defender has to keep the interrogators from getting the answer. That means no facial expressions or other hints. If the defenders can hold out for 10 minutes they win. Otherwise the interrogators will have the victory. This way you can imitate Bella's mental shield.

Holiday Party Games, Best Enjoyment Game Plan For Kids

Holiday Party Games are fun and excitement. You need to plan the games in such a way that the kids would really love each and every game event that they are asked to participate in. There are a lot of games that are repeated in different parties and it is best to introduce the ones that are not being played before. You can think of some creative games yourself but below are two that you might take as different from what you have organized in your previous parties.

Let Us Make Jewelry

Let Us Make Jewelry is a very special Holiday Party Game for the kids. In this game, you are going to provide the kids with the beads, elastic cord, scissors to make bracelets and necklaces, as well as assistance if they are unable to work things out, so they do not feel frustrated and know that help is always around. Your beads must have printing on them according to the theme of your party. For example, for your animal themed party, you have beads that have pictures of animals on them. The kids would love every bit of their time making necklaces and bracelets and this is something that they are going to take home as a souvenir.

Guess The Animal

This is a very exciting and a funny Holiday Party Game. In this game, you are going to pick out a kid or an adult who is really good in making sounds of an animal. The individual who is going to make the sounds is asked to stand in front of all the kids and then the kids raise their hands to answer as to who the animal is. The kid who gives the right answer is given a prize. It would be best that all the kids in the party are given a gift so that everyone feels really good.

The basic theme of a holiday party is to have fun and this is what should be its focus. There are a lot of other games that you can plan on to make your party a true success.

Party Games: Fun Mystery Games To Make Your Party A Success!

There are many party games sure to be a success, but everyone likes to come up with something special, different, and fun. One party game sure to please mystery lovers, and scavenger hunters alike, is a party game "Who done it" "Mission Possible" mystery. The key to this game working well and being sure to please is the all important step of planning.

It will take more then one person to plan and execute this party game mystery. To begin the party game, the guests arrive to find a "victim" (Stuff clothes, or use a doll, and add 'blood' and injuries to your victim). In the victim's hand, will be a clue, which will point these amateur sleuths to yet another clue. You can make this as complex, or as simple, as you want, moving throughout your neighborhood (or building)or simply keeping all the clues within your house and/or yard. Guests will divide up into teams, with the hosts being the 'detectives' who present the clues, and guide the amateur sleuths in solving the mystery to find out 'who done it.'

Occasionally, a particular party game participant will be required to act out a scene, or be confronted with evidence against them. They can prove their innocence, dispute the charges against them, or be temporarily jailed; if the other sleuths are convinced the evidence against their fellow partygoer is compelling. There can be jail breaks, and subterfuge according to how your guests react to the prompts you give them. Half the fun is seeing how each guest improvises to cast blame, and convince everyone which person committed the crime.

The real fun of this party game is the imagination of, not just the hosts who orchestrate the mystery, but the sleuths who solve it. One thing is certain, this game is sure to always be a success, and though the 'who done it' party game takes effort, imagination, and planning, it is a party that will be enjoyed by all, and is sure to be remembered as the best party game of all!

Popular Halloween Party Games For Children

Halloween is a favorite holiday for many children, second only to Christmas. Dressing up as your favorite character and collecting a huge amount of free candy is hard to beat for a kid. One way to you can add to the fun of Halloween is by throwing a Halloween party for your children and their friends. In order to do this well there are a number of things that you will need. You'll want food, drinks, decorations and props. Also, just in case the children start to get bored, it's useful to have a few Halloween party games ready for them to play. Often, the kids themselves can organize their own games but, depending on the age of the children, it might be wise to provide adult supervision to prevent the play becoming too boisterous.

Coming up with Halloween party games that will keep your kids entertained may be the trickiest part of the planning so here are a few simple and inexpensive ideas. Use them to create a fun and entertaining party for both children and adults alike.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

The classic Halloween Treasure Hunt is a great party games for kids of seven and up and will keep them entertained for a long time. Choose easy to find items and some that are well hidden. The children should be split into teams of mixed ages and given lists of the items that they need to search for. Make sure most of the items have a Halloween theme. If you need some assistance with choosing items to include on the list, there are many websites that have printable scavenger hunt lists that you can use. The team that collects the most items within a designated time period or the first team back with all of their items are the winners of the game.

Bobbing For Apples

Probably even more of a classic than the Halloween Scavenger Hunt is bobbing for apples. The only items you will need for this are a large container for holding water and a bag of apples from your local grocery store. If you're having a large party with lots of kids, a toddler's plastic wading pool makes an excellent container to hold the water and has the advantage of being large enough for several kids to bob for apples at the same time.

Fill the container to a depth of 8 to 12 inches to allow the apples to float freely. Drop the apples into the water and let the children kneel down and try to remove an apple from the water using only their teeth. You can group them in sets of two or three if you like to make it more fun. Obviously, this game, like many Halloween party games for kids, is best played outdoors to prevent mess inside the house. However, make sure game is supervised at all times by an adult. The child who extracts an apple the fastest should be the one that gets the winner although you may want to give all the children a little prize regardless.

Other Halloween party games for kids include beanbag tosses, variations of pin the tail on the donkey like stick the fang on the vampire, truth or dare and contests such as best or most unique Costume. These can be judged by adults or voted on by the children themselves.

Halloween Party Game Prizes

The most obvious Halloween party prizes will be candy since the aim for most children on Halloween is to collect as much of it as they can. Other prizes might be pencils, erasers and small toys. However, the most important part of your party is making sure that the guests enjoy themselves.

Halloween party will make a nice change from trick or treating for most kids and having some games prepared will go a long way to making sure they all have a fun time. There are a large number of websites with Halloween party games for kids on the internet, if you are looking for more ideas. Many of these have game ideas, instructions and even forms you can print out to help you throw a successful Halloween party.

Electronic Free Activities For Families That Build Social Skills

If you are like most parents, grandparents, teachers today, you probably think that children are watching way too much television today.  Not only are they sitting on their rear ends inside, when you can get them outside, they are playing video games on their cell-phones or other electronics. So, not only are they not getting sufficient exercises and breathing clean air, they are also becoming more and more isolated from each other and the family.

Turn Off the Television and Turn On Fun

Do you think that fun and games must be expensive or come only after the chores and homework is done? Do you think that being together has to include food or commercial events?  Are you waiting for the children to suggest a romp in the park or a race to the mailbox? Are you hoping they will ask you to come out and play?

Well, trust me, it won't happen!  it is much too easy for your kids to turn on the TV, Game boy or Wii.  These electronic entertainment centers are almost addictive and much too easy to turn on and hours later, they are still communicating electronically, rather than face to face interaction with other real people.

You are the Family Activities Director

If you really want the kids to turn off the electronics and turn on their imaginations, you must consistently plan family fun times.  You can include the children in planning family outings and game nights.  This will give them an opportunity to learn how to present ideas and negotiate in a safe environment.  This planning process can teach your child how to compromise and take turns, as well as the principle of give and take.

Entertain and Connect with Games and Kids

As a parent educator, many families tell me they are concerned with a number of issues dealing with too much electronic time in front of what has been called "the third parent" or "Free baby-sitter"  These are just a few of the worries:

How the advertising is influencing the child' s development of language (yikes) and values.
The family is not spending quality time together because everyone is stressed out and busy, including children.
The whole family has bad eating habits like snacking and mindless eating
Everyone is lacking in social skills because they seldom interact with other families
Their children are "bad sports" and "sore losers" on athletic teams because they don't know how to lose or win graciously
No one knows how to make friends
When family time is suggested, the kids think it means a trip to McDonald's, Disneyland or miniature golf, which all cost money.

Do some brainstorming with the whole family and see what games and activities that you can do together that require little or no preparation and no cash!  Instead of spending time in front of the television, invest a few hours getting outside and enjoying each other and nature. Spend time with your children and neighbors in the community building strong bodies, minds and relationships.

It is the most important work you will ever do.

Ideas For Your Baby's First Birthday Party

1.  Theme - If you choose to have a theme, think about what your baby likes.  Whether it is Elmo, horses, clowns, princesses or the beach, you can't go wrong.

2.  Guest List - Think about limiting your birthday party guest list to your family and close friends along with their immediate families.

3.  Time of Day - Consider when your baby is at his or her best, which is usually after a nap, and set the party time accordingly.  A first birthday party usually means that there will be lots of activity and focus on the baby, so timing can be critical to his or her mood.

4.  Menu - Make it easy on yourself.   Many families simply invite guests over for dessert.  However, it you would like to serve a meal, there are many easy options:

Hors D'oeuvres -  Warehouse clubs like Sam's Club, Costco, and Gordon Foods, sell very good finger food at a decent price.  Our family party favorites are mini pizzas, mini quiches, sweet and sour meat balls.
Barbecue - During the warm weather months, a barbecue can be fun and easy, especially if someone else is in charge of the grilling.   Beef, turkey, and even tofu hotdogs are a great choice because they are precooked.  You can also serve fresh fruit kabobs as a side dish along with some store-bought side salads.

Submarine Sandwiches - You can order these (one long one is a lot of fun!) or make them yourself.   If you decide to make them, start with fresh baked bread and add your favorite deli meats and cheeses.

Side Dishes - If there are toddlers and young school aged kids, be sure to have some chicken nuggets as well as Mac and Cheese around.  This is something that you may wish to ask someone to bring.

5.  Party Supplies - These can be costly, and most of the time they are tossed away, so you may consider purchasing a few festive colorful plastic table cloths.   Use solid color standard paper plates, plastic silverware a cups.

6.  Activities - Consider your guests when planning activities.  Some parents like to hire a babysitter to watch the little ones or toddlers.  Be sure to have toys and games based on the ages of the guests.  You can even ask a parent or two to be in charge of this.

5 Extraordinarily Fun Twilight Party Games

This fall many fans are excited about the upcoming premiere of New Moon in theaters. One of the ways fans in the past have celebrated their love of all things Twilight has been with themed parties. This was first started by the Twilight proms sponsored by author Stephenie Meyers the creator of Twilight. Many fans are looking forward to celebrate the release of New Moon with their own new moon parties. One thing that you as a fan can do to liven up your own party is to have Twilight party games. Here are some great suggestions to help you get started.

Have a game of Twilight Blind man's Bluff. Clear the main area where the party is happening and pick someone to be it. Vampires have a supernatural awareness of their surroundings. So in this game the person who is it will have to use their keen sense of hearing and knowledge of the room to find all the other participants that are hiding. This can be a particularly fun game because it tests the abilities of all players involved. Those that hide will have to do their best to avoid getting caught and those that are it will need to make use of every sense and skill other than their sight.

You can also make your party a costume event. Have a best costume contest or a lookalike contest. Send a flyer with your party invitations instructing your guests on the requirements for the contest. Give special rewards for the most original costume, best look alike, and best couple. It should be a fun way to start your party.

You can also have a prediction game with a set of cards or some other medium. Alice Cullen in New Moon is known for being able to tell the future whenever a vampire or human makes a decision. Try to come up with your own special game that tests your guest to see if they can make predictions as accurate as Alice's.

Something else you can do is having games that test people's agility. A great example is having guests play dance games like Dance Dance Revolution or playing a game of Twister. While these are not exactly vampire or Twilight themed, they are great games that will test the extent of your friend's physical abilities.

Of course both vampires and werewolves in New Moon have an extraordinary sense of smell. Have a scent game. Pick various items that have recognizable scents such as foods or household items. Mix them up and blindfold each player and have them properly identify each mystery item just by smell. The player that can guess the most items correctly is the winner can be declared to have a supernatural sense of smell.

A fan's pride is to know everything about their favorite subject. So have a challenging Twilight Trivia contest. Try to find obscure or difficult questions only a devoted Twi-Hard would know the answer to. There are different ways you can do it. You can have it so that only one winner comes out on top or to be more generous you can give a main prize and runner up prizes for everyone else. This is a great opportunity to see who the biggest Twilight fan at your event is.

A Couple Christening Party Games for Everyone

The Christening is an important event for the parents of a baby, though the child probably won't remember it, but you'll certainly remember whether or not you had any good Christening party games after the event. You'll probably have a few kids and adults and some older people at the party so you'll want a mixture of christening party games to choose from.

Push Along:

This is a fun Christening party game any guests can really get into, well everyone who is still limber enough to play. You can certainly encourage those not playing to cheer and root for their favorite Christening party game player. Those in the race must pretend to be babies and push a ping pong ball to the finish line with their nose.

Be sure to get enough ping pong balls for the Christening party games because everyone in the race will need to have one. Also set up a start line and a finish line with masking tape, string or a chalk line. It's tough to stay on a straight course when playing push along so make sure you separate the players enough that they don't run into each other.

Feeding Time:

This is a laugh riot to have at your Christening party games, but it may be more suitable for a Christening where a lot of adults are present. The women at the party will sit in chairs on the opposite side of the Christening party area. Give each woman a baby bottle filled with something to drink (you can use milk) and each woman should also have a bib she's going to put on her 'baby'.

Set the same number of men at the starting line of the Christening party games area. When the race begins, the men will run to the women and one man will get into each woman's lap. The women should tie the bib on their 'baby' and then feed him from the bottle. The men can't touch the bottles with their hands. When a team has finished their bottle, the woman removes the bib and they both run back to the starting line. The first pair to complete the Christening party game task is the winners.

When you get the guests at the Christening party games together it will be loads of fun for all. Take lots of pictures, especially during the second game because it's a riot!

Luau Party - Here Are Some Great Luau Party Ideas For Games, Food and Decorations

A Luau party can be a lot of fun for a group of adults that want to get together for a festive, tropical-island themed event.  The Luau party makes a great theme for birthday parties.  Here are some great luau party ideas including suggestions for games, food , invitations and decorations.

Invitations

Decide first whether you want to buy pre-made invitations or  if you want to make your own.  If you are using pre-made invitations, be sure to choose designs with bright colors, or large flowers.  Some recognizable Hawaiian icons are hula dancers, leis, and palm trees.  Personalize the envelopes with a custom designed postage stamp!  If you want to get creative, try to find some Hawaiian postcards and mail to your guests and write all of the details of the party on the blank side.

You can also try to create an image of airline tickets and write on the outside "You've just won 2 free tickets!" and fill in the information like this:  destination: YOUR HOUSE arrival time: PARTY START TIME departure time:  PARTY END TIME.

Another creative idea is to write the party details on a beach ball, deflate the ball, and mail to your guests with instructions to blow up the ball for more details.

You can also attach an index card to a lei with party information written on it, and mail the lei to your guests with instructions to wear it to the party!

Decorations

Options for decorations at a luau are endless.  For an outdoor party, set tiki torches around the party area.  It is convenient to get torches that burn citronella oil to keep mosquitoes at bay.  Buy real or silk orchids and hibiscus flowers and scatter them around the venue.  Make your own surfboards from Styrofoam board.

Trim tables with grass skirts and place shell candles and coconuts on them.  Try to find an old surfboard to use as a table.  Be absolutely certain there are enough leis at the party for everyone.  Find real, cardboard, or inflatable palm trees.  Blow up some beach balls and place them around the room or patio.  Whatever it is, think bright and bountiful color!

Games

The first game anyone thinks about at a luau is the limbo.  You can buy inflatable limbo sets or real bamboo sets, but it's simple enough to find a long flat stick or board and two people willing to hold up either end.  Crank up the Don Ho and see how low you can go!

Another inexpensive yet fun and hilarious game is who can "hula" the longest.  Hula HOOPING of course!  Without authentic hula dancers at the party, engage your guests with this timeless contest and see who still has it.  Offer prizes for the longest hula-er and the guest who can hula with the most hoops.

Pineapple bowling will be a favorite.  Use coconuts to knock down pineapple "pins".  Ula Maika is a traditional Hawaiian game similar to horseshoes with two sticks as the posts and small stones as the horseshoes.  See who can make it closer to the sticks with the stones. If room permits, set up a volleyball net and play some beach volleyball.

Food

Luau in Hawaiian means "great feast."  Set up the food at the party in buffet style.  You can ask your local butcher to butterfly a whole pig, and just throw it on the barbeque.  Serve pineapple ham.  Fresh tropical fruit salad with pineapple, mango, papaya and watermelon in a large hollowed out watermelon with be pleasing to the palate as well as the eyes.  Haupia, a coconut pudding  is a tantalizing sweet treat.  Serve tropical drinks out of coconuts halves.  Try Mai Tai, Pina Coladas, or a tropical punch with fresh fruit pieces in it.

Cake

The cake can be as simple or magnificent as you like. Bake a circular cake and decorate it like a beach ball.  You can also try your hand at carving out a cake by baking a rectangular cake and cutting it down to look like a ukulele.  Use decorators icing to complete the picture.  A simple pineapple upside down cake will tantalize your guests.  Add a colorful splash with cherries on top.

To go for the wow factor, make a "Volcano" cake by making a simple chocolate Bundt cake and carefully placing a piece of dry ice in the middle to simulate the smoke.  Mix orange and red food coloring with white icing and drizzle along the sides to look like lava.

Christmas Party Games - Festive Holiday Fun

Christmas party games make any holiday celebration fun. Party games get the party going and keep it going. Like most Christmas traditions, Christmas games were enjoyed throughout the centuries as an important part of holiday celebrations.

As early as the 16th century it was customary to play games at Christmas. Late medieval English law allowed servants and commoners to play games at Christmas that were forbidden the rest of the year. These games included tennis, dice, cards, billiard and others.

Christmas games enjoyed in the modern period were blindman's bluff, feed the dove and hot cockles. In Hot Cockles each player in turn is blindfolded. The blindfolded player puts his hands behind his back, palms up. One of the other players hits the hands of the blindfolded player. The blindfolded player must guess which of the other players has hit him. If he does so correctly, he may penalize the player whom he "caught." hose who preferred a greater mental test might retire to a game of chess, while the physically agile might
challenge each other to tennis or skittles.

The English also enjoyed playing cards and gambling at Christmas time, especially with dice. During the reign of the Tudor kings, working people may have found greater pleasure in these games than the well-to-do, since they were prohibited by law from playing games except at Christmas time. In the sixteenth and 17th centuries the Puritans condemned those who celebrated Christmas by playing games and gambling.

In Victorian England parlor games remained popular Christmas entertainments throughout the 19th century. Victorians favored such games as Snapdragon, Forfeits, Hoop and Hide (Hide and Seek), charades, Blind Man's Bluff, Queen of Sheba (a variation on Blind Man's Bluff), and Hunt the Slipper. In Snapdragon players gathered around a bowl of currants covered with spirits. A lighted match was dropped into the bowl, setting fire to the alcohol. Players challenged one another to grab a flaming currant out of the bowl and pop it into their mouths, thus extinguishing the flames. A bit of light verse describes the fearful delights of this game:

Here he comes with flaming bowl,

Don't he mean to take his toll,

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

Take care you don't take too much,

Be not greedy in your clutch,

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

With his blue and lapping tongue

Many of you will be stung,

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

For he snaps at all that comes

Snatching at his feast of plums,

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

But Old Christmas makes him come,

Though he looks so fee! fa! fum!

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

Don't 'ee fear him, be but bold-

Out he goes, his flames are cold,

Snip! Snap! Dragon!

Players heightened the effect of the glowing, blue flames by extinguishing all other lights in the room except that cast by the burning bowl.

In Hunt the Slipper players formed a circle around one person. They held their hands behind their backs and passed a slipper around the outside of the circle. The person in the center of the circle had to guess who was in possession of the slipper at any given moment.

A number of other English Christmas games have now disappeared so completely that only their picturesque names remain behind. Folklorists cannot now say how they were played. These forgotten games include Shoeing the Wild Mare, Steal the White Loaf, Postand Pair, Feed the Dove, Puss-in-the-Corner, and The Parson Has Lost His Cloak. Before a Christmas party broke up for the evening, the sleepy guests might play one last, quaintly named game called Yawning for a Cheshire Cheese. The players sat in a circle and yawned at one another. Whoever produced the longest, most open-mouthed, and loudest yawn won a Cheshire cheese.

Christmas Games are also played in other Countries. Some traditional Christmas games are for children. In many nations Advent calendars amuse children with a kind of counting game in the weeks before Christmas. Children in Mexico often play games with piñatas at holiday season parties. In Iran youngsters play egg-tapping games at Christmas time. Most Christmas games, however, involve adults and younger people. In a number of different countries sporting matches, games of chance, or fortune-telling games are associated with one or more days of the Christmas season.

In past times Swedes used to play games with Christmas gifts, which they call Julklapp, on December 24. On St. Stephen's Day both Swedes and Norwegians used to race horses (see Norway, Christmas in). Ethiopians celebrate Christmas Day by playing ganna, a sport that resembles hockey (see Ethiopia, Christmas in). In the United States, many people enjoy watching football bowl games on New Year's Day. In Lithuania people entertain themselves on Christmas Eve with fortune-telling games.

Some popular Christmas games we enjoy today are Yankee Swap, Elephant Gift Exchange, cookie exchanges, caroling and others. There's no doubt that Christmas party games still play a big part in making the season special and memorable.
